When Cole and Son’s announced that they were relaunching one of their most iconic designs “Hummingbirds’, I got this feeling of nostalgia, like meeting up with an old friend, such great memories having specified this design around 12 years ago, adorning the walls to the entrance of a romantic Wedding Venue amongst the rolling hills of Herefordshire. It became the backdrop to so many beautiful photographs. Originally created in the 1780s as an 18-colour hand block-printed motif, taking a total of 11 blocks to print, using a method called ‘patch printing’ where the printer can print more than one colour with each impression, Hummingbirds has remained a precious jewel within the Cole & Son portfolio. It’s been tastefully revived, the house’s new Selection of Hummingbirds also incorporates new textiles in crisp cotton poplins as well as raw silks, both plain co-ordinates and luxurious embroidered silks showcasing the dazzling hues of each bird’s plumage. The Collection will be available to view by appointment and sample if to be considered for your project at Rock Paper Scissors Creative Interiors in Burley from mid-April.
